Scene recognition — detection beyond objects

Lightio's biggest detection upgrade since the YOLOX-M switch. Every capture now runs object detection and Apple Vision scene classification together, so you get a relevant Hadith even when there's no single object to frame.

Detection UI & UX
  • Scene & place classification. Apple Vision (VNClassifyImageRequest) now runs alongside YOLOX-M in a single on-device pass — recognizing gardens, mountains, bodies of water, and other scenes beyond the 80 COCO objects.
  • Smart filtering. Vision emits hundreds of candidates per image; a precision gate, confidence floor, normalization, de-duplication against object labels, and a cap of five keep only the meaningful scene labels.
  • Clear separation. Object results (YOLOX, up to ten) and scene results sit on separate confidence scales and are never interleaved — objects first, then scenes.
  • "No results" is now rare. The empty state appears only when both the object and scene passes come up empty.
  • Cleaner captures. The on-image bounding-box overlay is gone — results are tappable chips beneath a clean framed image.
v1.6.4 June 13, 2026

Explicit language picker, simpler account & privacy

Translation language is now a clear in-app picker instead of being inferred from a verified phone number — and the phone verification flow is gone entirely. Account handling and privacy disclosures are tightened to match.

Privacy UI & UX Fix
  • Pick your Hadith language. A new Settings → Hadith Language picker lets signed-in users choose their translation language directly, applied to every AI summary and to prayer-reminder notification text. English stays the default.
  • Phone verification removed. The SMS verification flow is gone. A phone number is now plain optional contact info — never verified, never used for SMS, marketing, or to infer your language.
  • Clearer personal-data handling. Privacy disclosures now spell out exactly how email, gender, and birth date are used — your birth date becomes an age-group bucket (exact date never used for ranking), with a minimum age of 13.
  • Honest AI context. When Data Personalization is on, only your gender, age-group bucket, and preferred language accompany the object label sent to OpenAI — never your image, email, phone, or history.
  • Smoother account screen. Saving your profile now keeps you on the screen with a brief "Saved" confirmation; prayer location updates show a confirmation toast too.
  • Hardened sign-out. Account cleanup on sign-out is now bounded by a timeout so it can't hang when you're offline.
  • History retention on foreground. Local history retention is now applied when the app returns to the foreground, keeping on-device storage tidy.
v1.6.3 June 5, 2026

Tighter consent controls & sign-out cleanup

A privacy-hardening release. Account-bound features now stay behind sign-in, withdrawing consent or signing out reliably clears the data it covered, and cloud sync merges instead of overwrites.

Privacy Fix
  • Auth-gated account features. Cloud Sync and Data Personalization toggles now require sign-in to enable — they write data keyed to your account, so they stay disabled until you're signed in.
  • Cleaner Recommended preset. Cloud Storage is no longer pre-checked in the onboarding "Recommended" consent preset — cloud is now always an explicit, deliberate opt-in.
  • Search without analytics. Core Hadith search no longer requires Analytics consent. You can keep analytics off and still search freely.
  • Sign-out clears account data. Signing out now clears account-bound consents and removes your saved prayer location from memory and profile.
  • Withdrawing consent clears its data. Turning off Prayer Reminders clears the saved location, with a clear in-app hint so there are no surprises.
  • Cloud sync merges, never overwrites. History and favorites now sync by union — local and cloud items are combined instead of one replacing the other.
v1.6.2 June 1, 2026

Liquid Glass UI, Jumu'ah surfacing, onboarding priming

A refinement release: iOS 26's Liquid Glass material adopted across primary surfaces, Friday Jumu'ah framing for male users, an onboarding step that primes prayer reminders right after sign-in, and a broader minimum-iOS bump so more devices are welcome.

Prayer UI & UX Platform Privacy Fix
  • iOS 26 Liquid Glass. Primary surfaces, Phase 2 surfaces, and all CTA buttons now adopt iOS 26's Liquid Glass material — with a graceful fallback for older releases.
  • Wider device support. Minimum iOS bumped down from 18.6 to 17.0, so users on older iPhones can run Lightio again.
  • Onboarding prayer priming. After sign-in, a new onboarding step explains and requests iOS notification permission. Enabling here sets Prayer Reminders consent in one step.
  • Friday Jumu'ah for male users. Friday Dhuhr is surfaced as Jumu'ah (Salat Jumat / Solat Jumaat / …) in notifications when your profile gender is male — never imposed on users who didn't share their gender, and falls back to Dhuhr otherwise.
  • 3-day schedule cap. Notifications are scheduled only 3 days ahead instead of 7, so you don't get stale times if you travel across time zones.
  • Auto-refresh on location update. Prayer settings refresh themselves the moment your location updates — no manual reload.
  • Fresher hadith reflections. A small on-device tracker remembers recently-shown hadith identifiers per prayer slot, so notifications rotate through fresh content instead of repeating. The tracker stays local — only IDs, no personal data.
  • Smarter weather search. If the weather-enriched hadith search returns nothing, the app now falls back to a baseline keyword instead of showing an empty result.
  • Notification & location fixes. No more authorization request at launch; foreground prayer notifications now surface in the system list. Concurrent location requests are coalesced onto a single task.
v1.6.1 May 24, 2026

Sun & weather come to Prayer Reminders

A focused follow-up to v1.6 that brings the sky and weather into Prayer Reminders, plus quality-of-life polish for the schedule view.

Prayer Privacy UI & UX Platform
  • Sun Today (via Apple WeatherKit). Sunrise, solar noon, and sunset now appear beneath Today's Schedule. Uses the latitude and longitude already stored in your prayer profile — no additional personal data is sent.
  • Weather-aware reflections. At prayer-time notifications, Lightio enriches hadith reflection search with current weather — for example, surfacing rain-related hadiths when it's raining at your location.
  • Dynamic schedule & location refresh. The schedule now recalculates day-to-day drift correctly, and refreshing your location updates prayer times immediately.
  • UX polish. Apply button is disabled when the calculation has no unsaved changes; today's date is shown in the Today's Schedule section header.
v1.6 May 17, 2026

Prayer Reminders & reliable cloud sync

The biggest update since launch. We've added opt-in prayer time notifications with 8 global calculation methods, integrated crash reporting, and made cloud sync resilient to flaky connections.

Prayer Privacy Platform Fix
  • Prayer Reminders (New). Opt-in local notifications for the five daily prayers. One-time location detection (city, country, coordinates, time zone) to calculate accurate prayer times via the Adhan algorithm. Notifications scheduled fully on-device.
  • 8 global calculation methods. Muslim World League, ISNA, Egyptian Authority, Umm al-Qura, Karachi, Tehran, plus Muhammadiyah and Kemenag for Indonesian users.
  • Asr calculation choice. Pick Standard or Hanafi directly, framed neutrally by calculation behavior rather than madhab identity.
  • Crash reporting. Integrated Firebase Crashlytics for faster diagnosis and resolution of stability issues. Declared in our App Privacy manifest.
  • Reliable cloud sync. History and Favorites sync now preserves local data if an initial cloud fetch fails due to a flaky connection.
  • Under-the-hood refactor. Reworked how detection thumbnails are stored on disk for better long-term reliability.
v1.5 May 2, 2026

New detection engine — YOLOX-M

We've upgraded the object detection engine to YOLOX-M, a permissively-licensed model that keeps the same 80 detectable objects with an even smaller footprint.

Detection Fix
  • YOLOX-M (Apache 2.0). Replaces YOLOv7 with a cleaner license suitable for App Store distribution. Same recognition coverage of 80 COCO categories.
  • Smaller model size. Detection model file reduced by roughly 31% compared to the prior release.
  • Bounding box accuracy. Fixed box alignment for portrait-orientation captures so detected objects are framed correctly on screen.
v1.4 April 26, 2026

New AI backend & modernized UI

We've revamped the AI-powered Hadith search backend and modernized the app for the latest iOS — now with AI summaries that automatically match the country detected from your verified phone number.

Detection UI & UX Platform
  • New AI backend. Migrated Hadith search from DigitalOcean GenAI to OpenAI for higher-quality, faster responses.
  • Country-aware AI output. Summaries default to English. Once you verify your phone number, Lightio infers your country from the dialing code and switches summaries to that country's primary language. Falls back to English if the country's language isn't supported. (Superseded in v1.6.4 by an explicit Hadith Language picker; phone verification has since been removed.)
  • English narrator field. Hadith results now include English narrator information alongside the Arabic chain.
  • iOS 18.6 & modern UI. Bumped the deployment target to iOS 18.6 and adopted refreshed SwiftUI styling APIs.
v1.3 June 13, 2025

Push notifications, phone verification, cross-device sync

This release brings push notifications, phone verification, and seamless cross-device sync for your favorites and history.

Platform Privacy UI & UX
  • Push notifications. Stay informed with opt-in alerts — integrated Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging.
  • Phone number verification. Optionally verify your phone number with an SMS code via Firebase Phone Auth.
  • Cloud sync for favorites & history. With your consent, favorites and detection history sync securely across your devices.
  • Data Personalization toggle. New explicit toggle in Account Settings to control consent for personalized content.
  • Expanded country codes. Comprehensive alphabetized list of all countries for phone code selection.
v1.2 June 9, 2025
